The Chief Minister's Special Monitoring (SMU) Unit conducted a visit to Punjab Dental Hospital, Lahore City, to assess its operational performance and the quality of dental healthcare services being provided to patients. During the visit, the team reviewed several key aspects, including the availability of qualified dental surgeons, orthodontists, and support staff; regular disbursement of staff salaries; and the functionality of the hospital’s management and administrative committees. They inspected patient registration and treatment records, the daily inflow of patients to outpatient and specialized dental clinics, the condition and adequacy of dental chairs and other equipment such as X-ray machines and sterilizers, and the operational status of diagnostic and treatment facilities. The team also examined the cleanliness and hygiene of dental wards and waiting areas, the condition of washrooms, and the availability of prescribed medicines and dental supplies. Additional checks included verifying the presence and condition of the hospital boundary wall, ensuring access to clean drinking water for patients and staff, and confirming the availability and operational readiness of ambulances. The team further assessed whether patients were receiving free or subsidized treatment in accordance with government policy, staff attendance and punctuality, the availability of basic emergency care, and whether dental staff had received specialized training under any government-led capacity-building or oral health development programs.
